Applications are invited for admission to the Master of Science by Research [M.S. (R)] in Energy programme starting in July 2017.

About the [M.S. (R)] in Energy Programme

The programme will help the candidates to build up the understanding on the energy sector and to develop R&D skills in the energy field. This programme will be ideal for individuals who are from industrial, commercial or government institutions in the areas of energy or related field and who wish to undertake R&D to solve problems in the field of energy and its interlinked areas. Thus, this M.S.(R) programme in the centre may also facilitate the interaction of IITG with industry/Government, commercial  and R&D institutes to promote technology or product oriented research for societal needs. The programme of research may involves a literature study, an experimental or/and numerical/modeling phase, an evolution phase perhaps followed by further theory and experimental studies to finally conclude the study. While, at the same time the investigating faculty members could explore new ideas through the project work of the students and develop solid seed work to be carried forward by the PhD students working in their group and, thus could intensify the research on their topics and promoting advance research in the Centres. The large number of seminar courses being offered in the M.S. (R) programme will rigorously imbibe the students for fast learning in their research field through self-learning process and simultaneously help them to hone the skill on literature survey and technical communications.

 

Duration of the Programme: Minimum duration of M.S.(R) programmes is 4 semesters (24 months) for full-time students and 6 semesters (36 months) for part-time students.

 

Students’ Categories in [M.S. (R)] in Energy Programme 

 

The Institute admits students to [M.S. (R)] in Energy Programme, under the following categories:

 

i)   REGULAR (FULL -TIME)

A student in this category works full-time for his/her M.S. (R) degree. He/she receives assistantship from the Institute or any other recognized funding agency.

 

ii)  SPONSORED (FULL-TIME)

A student in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, government organization or industry for doing M.S. (R) in the Institute on a full-time basis. The Institute does not provide any assistantship to such a student.  Sponsorship letter (Form I) must be attached with the application.

 

 

 

iii)   PROJECT STAFF

This category refers to a student who is working on a sponsored project in the Institute and is admitted them to M.S. (R) Programme to work on a full-time or part-time basis. The remaining duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least one year. If the project gets completed before the student completes his/her M.S. (R) Programme, his/her category will be converted to PART-TIME Category. No Objection Certificate (Form II) must be attached with the application.

 

iv)  PART-TIME

A student in this category is a professionally employed person ( employees of public sector undertakings or government departments or R&D organizations or private industries or staff of IIT Guwahati), who pursues the M.S. (R) Programme while continuing the duties of his/her service. The Institute does not provide any assistantship to such a student. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/ Organization in which he/she is employed (Form III) must be enclosed at the time of application.

 

Note:  The word `Form’ used under this section refers to the forms as specified in the Application Form for Admission to [M.S. (R)] in Energy Programme.

Eligibility Criteria For Admission to [M.S. (R)] in Energy Programme 

 

 

A Minimum CPI of 6.5 in a 10-point scale or 60% of marks in B.E/B.Tech/M.Sc or equivalent in any discipline along with a valid GATE score or NET(JRF)/INSPIRE qualified.

 

Or

 

B Tech degrees in any discipline from an IIT with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or above in which case GATE score is not mandatory.

 

For Sponsored(Full-Time)/Part-Time/IITG Project-staff category, GATE score or NET(JRF)/INSPIRE  etc. are not required.

 

Note:     (a)     For eligibility for financial assistance for regular category candidates, please see the section “Financial Support” below.

 

(b)     Minimum experience required for Sponsored (Full-time) and Part-Time categories of candidates, have been indicated below.

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE FOR SPONSORED(FULL-TIME) AND PART-TIME CATEGORIES OF APPLICANTS FOR [M.S. (R)] IN ENERGY PROGRAMME

 

1.   Candidate in Sponsored Full-Time and Part-time categories must be a regular employee of the sponsoring   
        organization with at least 1(One) year of professional experience in the respective field.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS FOR CANDIDATES STILL TO APPEAR IN QUALIFYING EXAMINATIONS

 

Candidates still to appear in their qualifying degree examinations may also apply, provided they appear in all their qualifying degree examinations and complete all requirements for their degrees before 14-07-2017. If selected, such candidates shall be admitted provisionally, and they will have to furnish the results of their qualifying degree examinations latest by            21-08-2017. Further, they must fulfill the minimum requirements of marks/CPI, and other conditions like valid GATE score/NET(JRF)/INSPIRE (as may be applicable) etc., as mentioned under eligibility criteria for respective programmes. Failure to fulfill any of these requirements, shall automatically result in cancellation of admission.

Relaxation for SC/ST/PwD Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PwD  applicants.

 

Reservation of Seats for SC, ST, OBC(Non-creamy layer) and PwD categories.

OBC(Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose certificate and self-declaration statement as per format indicated below. The OBC(NCL) Certificate, issued by competent authority, on or after               01-04-2016, shall only be acceptable.  

 

 

Financial Support

(For regular students, who are Indian nationals)

 

1.   Assistantships are provided to regular students (Indian nationals) at the rate of Rs.12,400/- per month, with valid and qualifying GATE/NET(JRF)/INSPIRE score/certificate. GATE score requirement is exempted for students with Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with minimum CPI of 8.0.

 

2. Assistantships from external funding organizations will be available as per terms and conditions of the concerned
funding organizations.

 

3. Students receiving assistantships from the Institute or from any other funding agencies, are required to     
     perform academic duties as per prevailing norms.

 

4. The continuation of the assistantship is subject to satisfactory performance of the assigned duties and
      satisfactory progress of the student in the
[M.S. (R)] in Energy Programme.

 

5.  Financial assistantship will be for a maximum period of 2(two) years.

Application Procedure

  

First Step

 

Please get a print-out of the `Guideline for Filling-up Online [M.S. (R)] in Energy Application Form’, by visiting the concerned website given below.

 

Second Step

 

For filling-up Online Application Form, first of all, please keep ready with you the following documents (including scanned soft copies of some of the documents, as specified below, to be available in your computer or CD or Pen Drive for direct uploading). Otherwise, you may have difficulty in completing on-line submission of your application form.

 

(i)   A scanned soft copy of your recent coloured photograph of size more than 15 KB but less than 80 KB (4.5 cm. x 3.5 cm.) with file type jpeg or jpg or gif only, for direct uploading in to the Online Application Form. Please note that uploading of your coloured photograph is mandatory.

 

IF A SCANNED COPY OF YOUR COLOURED PHOTOGRAPH IS NOT UPLOADED, YOUR ON-LINE APPLICATION MAY BE REJECTED.

 

(ii)  A copy of your Date of Birth(DoB) Certificate (this will be required, if DoB is not mentioned in your Class X/XII Pass Certificate/Mark Sheet);

 

(iii) If applicable, A SCANNED SOFT COPY of your Caste Certificate [including OBC(NCL) Certificate as per format prescribed below)], in image format like jpeg or jpg or gif only, of size more than 80 KB but less than 200 KB, for direct uploading in to the Online Application Form. Please note that OBC(NCL) certificate should be issued by the competent authority on or after 01-04-2016.

 

ALSO PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU APPLY AS  SC/ST/OBC(NCL) CANDIDATE, BUT DO NOT UPLOAD A SCANNED COPY OF THE APPROPRIATE CASTE CERTIFICATE, YOUR CLAIM FOR CONSIDERATION UNDER RESERVATION CATEGORY MAY BE REJECTED; AND YOU MAY BE CONSIDERED UNDER GENERAL CATEGORY.

 

(iv)  if applicable, SCANNED SOFT COPIES of your `PwD’ Certificate, size more than 80 KB but less than 200 KB, for direct uploading in to the Online Application Form;

 

(v) if applicable, the appropriate Form in original relating to candidate’s Category [Sponsored (Full-Time)/ IITG’s Project Staff/ Part-Time] - as per format prescribed below;

 

(vi) SCANNED SOFT COPIES of (a) Pass Certificate (Original/Provisional) and (b) Consolidated Mark Sheet of the Qualifying Degree, size more than 80 KB but less than 200 KB, for direct uploading in to the Online Application Form.

 

If you are not in a position to upload scanned copy of your qualifying degree pass certificate due to reasons beyond your control, if called for Written Test/Interview/Counseling, you will be allowed to personally submit the same in the concerned Department on the day of Written Test/Interview/Counseling. 

 

BUT, IF YOU HAVE ALREADY COMPLETED YOUR QUALIFYING DEGREE PROGRAMME, AND DO NOT UPLOAD SCANNED COPY OF THE CONSOLIDATED MARK SHEET, YOUR ON-LINE APPLICATION MAY BE REJECTED.

 

THOSE APPEARING IN THEIR FINAL EXAMINATION will need to scan and upload only the Mark Sheet of previous semester/year of the Qualifying Degree; and this is MANDATORY.

 

Please note that, if called for Written Test/Interview/Counseling, the candidate will have to produce the Originals as well as Attested copies of all the documents relating to educational qualifications (from Class X onwards). This is also applicable for the result awaited candidates, except that along with other required documents they will produce Original as well as attested copies of all Mark Sheets up to the previous semester/year of the Qualifying Degree.

 

(vii) If applicable, A SCANNED SOFT COPY of your Qualifying Degree Grade Point Average to Percentage conversion certificate or proof thereof (e.g. scanned copy of your University’s/Institute’s Ordinances and Rules where the same is specified), of size more than 80 KB but less than 200 KB; in the absence of which the Institute will apply its own conversion e.g. 6.5 Grade Point Average out of 10, as equal to 60%. The same for other educational qualifications (i.e. other than Qualifying Degree) shall not required to be uploaded now, but will have to be produced in terms of originals if called for Counseling/Written Test/Interview.  

 

(viii) if applicable, a SCANNED SOFT COPY of your GATE/ NET(JRF)/INSPIRE, of size more than 80 KB but less than 200 KB.*

 

(ix) if applicable, attested copy of Certificates relating to your  professional experience etc..

 

(x) Demand Draft : Demand Draft is NOT REQUIRED now. It will be required for a candidate only and only if he/she is called to appear in Written Test/Interview/Counseling.

 

In other words, if a candidate is shortlisted and called** to appear in Written Test/ Interview/Counseling, only then he/she will be required to arrange a Demand Draft for Rs.150/- (Rs.75/- for SC/ST/PwD candidates), from any nationalized bank, in favour of INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY GUWAHATI, payable at Guwahati.

 

 

Note:   * If you are yet to receive the original GATE Score Card/NET(SRF)/INSPIRE, at least get the downloaded version of the same  from the concerned website. 

 

 

 **  Instead of waiting to receive the call letter, you may keep on visiting and seeing updates in the website of the Centre for Energy in which you are applying for admission i.e. http://www.iitg.ernet.in/ceer  

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU ARE NOW NOT REQUIRED TO SEND HARD COPIES OF ANY APPLICATION RELATED DOCUMENTS, INCLUDING THE DOWNLOADED ON-LINE APPLICATION FORM OR ANY DEMAND DRAFT, TO THE INSTITUTE.

 

IF YOU ARE SHORTLISTED AND CALLED BY THE CONCERNED ACADEMIC DEPARTMENT/CENTRE  FOR WRITTEN TEST/INTERVIEW/COUNSELING,  THEN ONLY YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PERSONALLY BRING ALL SUCH DOCUMENTS IN ORIGINAL (ALONG WITH A SET OF DUPLICATE COPIES).

 

 

Third Step

 

Please:

 

(i) enter in to the zone of Online Application Form by visiting the concerned website given below; and

 

(ii) fill-up the Online Application Form [by going through  the `Guideline for Filling-up Online [M.S. (R)] in Energy Application Form’ ] and submit ( i.e. execution of `Final Submit’ function);

 

(iii) Upload your photo and other relevant documents as explained at points (i), (iii),  (vi), (vii) and (viii) under Second Step above.

 

YOU CAN UPLOAD THESE DOCUMENTS ONLY AFTER SUCCESSFUL SUBMISSION OF ONLINE APPLICATION FORM [i.e. only after (not before or simultaneously) successful execution of `Final Submit’ function).

 

 

YOU ARE AGAIN REMINDED THAT UPLOADING OF DOCUMENTS AS STATED AGAINST POINTS (i), (iii), (iv),  (vi), (vii) AND (viii), WHEREVER APPLICABLE, UNDER SECOND STEP ABOVE, SHALL BE MANDATORY.  IF YOU DO NOT COMPLY TO THIS REQUIREMENT, YOUR APPLICATION MAY BE REJECTED.

 

Fourth Step

 

Please:

 

(a) take a print-out of your filled-up Online Application Form; and

 

(b) also keep a copy of your Filled-up Online Application Form saved in your computer or a CD or a Pen Drive (if the computer does not belong to you) for your future reference.

 

Fifth Step

After getting the print-out of your Online Application Form, you may put your signature with date on the print-out of your filled-up Online Application Form.

Selection

Legal Jurisdiction

 

The Courts at Guwahati alone shall have the jurisdiction to settle and decide all matters and disputes related to the above referred admission process, as IIT Guwahati is the organizing Institute.
