Under the Indo-Brazil Cooperation Programme

Indo-Brazil Internship Programme is on capacity building for students in India studying in leading technical institutions of India. The main thrust of this cooperation is on starting R&D projects between researchers in the two countries. However, to enable this interaction, there is a need for researchers in the two countries to get to know each other better. Through this project, this goal too will be taken forward.

This porgramme envisages the support for 6 students every year to go to Brazil for their summer internship programme for a period of 10 weeks. The students will have completed three years of a 4 year engineering degree. The target audience will be students from NITs and other leading central government funded institutes. IIT students will not be eligible. The aim is to expose students from these other institutes to a foreign environment. Besides, faculty from these institutes will also get an opportunity to interact with faculty from Brazil. Each student that is supported will have a guide in this own institution and there will be a guide in the hosting institution. These two faculties will interact in selecting a problem for the student. The faculty at his own institute can continue supervising the student for his degree project, which then can be an extension of his summer work. This in turn could lead to joint R&D proposal by the two faculty members, seeking funding from other sources.

IIT Guwahati will evolve selection criteria and select students. IITG will then handle the co-ordination with the host institute in Brazil and the student, and handle the logistics. Students will go for their internship in the following May-July period.

How to apply:

The student should contact the recruiting institutions in Brazil and identify the area of work (Please see the list of recruiting institutions to know about research areas and person to whom to contact in Brazil) on receipt their consent from them will apply to IIT Guwahati as per the specified format (Please download the application form to apply for this internship programme). In addition, student should submit the followings:

a) Filled Internship Enrolment Form as given above

b) Letter of acceptance from Institute in Brazil

c) No Objection certificate from the host institution (where he/s he is studying)

d) Two transcripts (latest) of the institution

e) A statement of your interest in the area duly signed by you.

f) Recommendation from the BTech guide/faculty advisor (two in sealed envelopes from two referees)

g) Indian Passport details (photocopy of the passport first four pages and last two pages)

Financial Assistance:

Selected students will get financial assistance for this programme which includes air-fare from India to Brazil and back, Visa fees, Medical Insurance and living expenses @ US$150 per week/per person at actual.

Application Deadline:

1^st December 2011 to 31^st January 2012. Application received after 31^st January will not be accepted.

Eligibility for applying:

Academic requirements: Students who have secured not less than 7 out of 10 CGPA or its equivalent grade can apply for this internship programme.

Only students presently studying :

Students who have completed 3 years of 4 years BTech/BE programme in Computer Science and Engineering/Mathematics and Computing/Electronics and Communication Engineering are eligible to apply.

Period of Internship:

Students will go for their internship in the following May-August period.
