About ACE

The ACE is a voluntary body of students and faculty belonging to the Civil Engineering Department of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG). Its major activities are to look after the welfare of the people of Civil Engineering Department, organizing periodic lectures to make students aware of the latest happenings in the field of Civil Engineering, coordinating talks among students on matters related to internship, placement opportunities, etc.

About the Department

Civil Engineering is considered to be the most versatile branch among all the engineering branches. It is the branch with lot of diversity right from geotechnical sciences to structural engineering, environmental to hydraulics, transportation to hydrology.l The vision of the department is to give an exposure to budding civil technocrats to various challenges in the profession. The department offers courses at undergraduate level, graduate level and PhD doctorate. The main areas of research include Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Hydrology, GIS and GPS Systems, Design of Structures, Environmental Engineering, Solid Mechanics and Transportation Engineering. The department also handles consultancy works and projects.

Our Mission

"Great monuments are not designed by science, but by art in spite of some pretence and humbug to the contrary. I do not mean to suggest that engineering can do without science, on the contrary, it stands on scientific foundations, but there is a big gap between scientific research and the engineering product which has to be bridged by the art of the engineer…….." ACE aim at bridging this gap, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. It provides a plethora for the budding civil engineers within the campus. It promotes excellence in civil engineering.

Our Objectives

* To facilitate a forum for discussion among the students and the faculty of Civil Engineering Department at IITG.
* Arrange periodic talks/lectures by the people concerned to make the latest discoveries and happenings in Civil Engineering known to the students of Civil Engineering Department, IITG.
* Arranging industrial trips if possible, for exposing students to the latest industrial practices in the field of Civil Engineering.
* Arranging periodic talks by senior students on matters related to internship, research, higher studies and placement opportunities.

Our Vision

* To make students aware about the wonders of civil and help them to know how civil helps them to build their ideas.
* To develop contacts with other civil organizations and thus promote the exchange of knowledge and ideas .
* To promote a healthy interaction among all the students and the faculty.
* To completely fill the gap between theoretical approach and its practical application.
* To promote continuous development of its members' professional skills and welfare.
* To work as a platform for new ideas and conceptions.
