OBJECTIVE:
Phenomena where nonlinearities are central to the understanding are seldom taught in university courses due to their specialized and technical nature. The proposed QIP would cover a novel set of topics  which are a good mix of both applied & basic aspects. The central objective of the course is to teach a set of specialized topics that has application across various Engineering and Science disciplines to a broad audience of both Engineers/Scientists. Topics such as Optical solitons, Electromagnetic Induced Transparency, Turbulence in Fluid mechanics, Fractals, Nonlinear dynamics of vibrating systems, Properties of nonlinear PDEs, Nonlinearities in Quantum many body theories etc. are aimed to be covered.Main objective of the course will not only be to enhance the knowledge of scientists and engineers about the fundamentals and latest developments in nonlinear science and engineering but also to motivate them to take up research and teaching in this rapidly growing field of science and engineering.

About IIT Guwahati
Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. the academic program of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995. At present the Institute has eleven departments covering all the major engineering and science disciplines. Within a short period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up the necessary infrastructure for carrying out advanced research and has been equipped with state-of-the-art engineering and scientific instruments. IIT Guwahati campus stands on a sprawling 285 hectares plot of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra. The campus is about 25 Km. from the heart of the city. With the majestic Brahmaputra on one side, and with hills and vast open spaces on the others, the campus provides an ideal setting for learning. The city of Guwahati is the gateway to the NE region and connected to many major cities in the country by rail and air. The weather during winter use to be pleasant with temperature varying between 15-20 degrees Celsius.
