Projects and Consultancy:

Our laboratories and the institute are equipped with several facilties to do state of the art research. We use instruments such as Gravimetric and Volumetric Adsorption units, PSA/TSA Adsorption Unit for evaluation of adsorbent materials and process development. In addtion, we use instruments such as BET surface area analyzer, XRD, SEM, TEM, GC/GC-MS, FTIR, TGA etc. for our materials characterization needs.

  • Development of Modified Amine based Absorption Process for CO2 capture

In this project a laboratory scale unit will be designed and commissioned in our institute to handle about 30 NLPM of N2/CO2 gas mixture in an amine solution flowing in a packed tower at about 400 cc/min. An amine based solvent with suitable additives will be developed for use in the packed bed absorption unit. The efficiency of removal and energy requirement in the packed bed unit will be studied. The project also includes development of a separate experimental facility to measure physical properties of the amine solution such as solubility and diffusivity of CO2.

  • Consultancy Services for Setting up of Pilot Plant for Removal of C5+ hydrocarbons and water vapor from Natural Gas by Adsorption Process

The project is a sequel to our earlier work for the same client in development of a laboratory scale unit. In this project we provide the client with our services in the process flow design, identification of third party for installation and commissioning of pilot plant and analysis of the pilot plant data for optimization of operating conditions.

  • Modeling of Membrane Contactor for CO2 Absorption in Amine

The main aim of the project is to model the behavior of a hollow fiber membrane contactor for CO2 separation using amine solution. First, the physical properties (such as solubility and diffusivity) of the amine solution in the amine solution were our laboratory. This data was then used to model the absorption behavior in a hollow fiber unit using an in-house developed software.

  • Development of Metal Nanostructures for Hydrogen Storage

The project involves development of metal structures for hydrogen storage. We developed an experimental setup for measurement of hydrogen storage at cryogenic temperatures. Metal Organic Frameworks with improved adsorption characteristics were synthesized by doping them with metal nanoparticles such as Li, Pt and Pd. The effect of doping on hydrogen adsorption characteristics is being investigated.

  • Study on Assessment of Technologies for Capture of CO2 for Carbon Sequestration

The project involved preparation of a report with focus on the Indian scenario including sources for carbon emissions, a comprehensive review on available carbon capture technologies, their technical analysis and the economic effect of implementation of these technologies in thermal power production.

  • Design and development of adsorption process for removal of C5+liquid condensate from gas lift pipeline network

The project involved identification of a suitable process for removal of heavier hydrocarbons and water vapor from natural gas stream. We have identified adsorbents and demonstrated based on a laboratory scale temperature swing adsorption unit using samples obtained from the client.

  • Development of Gel based Iron Catalyst for Coal Liquefaction

The project involved preparation of an iron based catalyst for direct coal liquefaction directly from iron ore. A suitable protocol for extraction of the ore and subsequent synthesis of gel based catalyst was developed. The efficiency of the catalyst on coal liquefaction was tested in a high pressure (~150 bar)/ temperature (400-500 0C) autoclave.

  • Measurement of pure gas adsorption on Metal organic frame works
