Background

Network algorithms play a major role in today’s network scenarios. With the advent of many new types of network such as ad hoc network, sensor network, p2p networks, delay tolerant networks, social networks, there is a scope for solving classical theoretical problems in these new settings. For example, wireless sensor network algorithms must be designed to take care of the energy constraints of such networks. In Ad hoc networks, mobility is an issue and ad hoc organization of nodes is the principle. Dealing with churn is a primary issue in p2p networks. Also different mathematical tools such as randomization, approximation techniques, game theory etc has opened up new research areas in these domains. Also each of these domains has great research potential. Hence the major objective of this course proposal is to enlighten the people about these recent advances in Network Algorithms. We plan to cover the following topics:

  • Algorithms for dynamic networks
  • Application of mathematical tools for various problems in networks

About IIT Guwahati

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity was established in 1994. The IIT Guwahati campus stands on a sprawling 285 hectares of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 20 km from the heart of the city. With the majestic Brahmaputra on one side, and with hills and vast open spaces on other sides, the campus provides an ideal setting for learning. Guwahati city is the gateway to beautiful NE region of the country and linked with all major cities by rail, road and air. Buses, auto-rickshaws and taxis are available from Guwahati City to the IIT Guwahati Campus. Institute buses are available at frequent intervals from the city to IITG campus and also within the campus. In city the institute buses starts from the Hotel President at Pan Bazaar (about 0.5 km from Guwahati Railway Station).
