Department of Electronics & Electrical Engg. (EEE) and Department of Computer Science & Engg.(CSE), IIT Guwahati are jointly organizing
a workshop on Xilinx FPGA Architecture and Design flow during November 22nd-23rd, 2013 at IIT Guwahati. The objective of this workshop
is to provide hands-on lab experience in understanding the design flow and handling of Xilinx high-end FPGA kits.

Department of EEE was established during the inception of the institute in 1995 as the department
of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE). Since its commencement, the primary objective of the department has been to impart quality education, training and research at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in various areas of Electronics and Communication Engineering with broad emphasis on design aspects of electronic systems.
The major areas of faculty expertise of the department include Biomedical Signal Processing, Communication Systems,
Computer Networks, Control Systems, Digital Signal Processing, Image Processing & Computer Vision, Instrumentation,
Multimedia Security, Power Electronics, Power Systems, Radar Signal Processing, RF and Microwaves, Speech Signal
Processing, VLSI Systems, VLSI CAD, MEMS and High Performance Computing.
The department offers degrees in the following area: B. Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering,
B.Tech. in Electronics & Electrical Engineering, M. Tech in four specializations: i) Signal Processing ii)
VLSI iii) Communication Engineering and iv) Applied Control, Ph. D. in various specialization areas of faculty
expertise as mentioned above.
Department of CSE, IIT Guwahati
The Department of CSE at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati,
was formed in 1995. Since its inception, the department has always been recognized all over the world for
excellence in research and teaching. The Department provides an outstanding research environment complemented by
superior teaching for its students to flourish in. The major areas of research include Algorithms, Computational
Geometry, Mobile Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Speech Processing, Natural Language Processing, Image Processing,
Software Engineering, Formal Verification, Electronic CAD, Computer Systems & Security, Networks.
Besides theoretical research, faculty in the department also maintain strong ties with many reputed
national and international companies and are involved in a large number of projects in the forefronts of
cutting edge technology.
The training program delivers the following key concepts to the participants:
1. Xilinx FPGA architecture and design flow.
2. PlanAhead based design flow.
3. Hardware debugging in Xilinx FPGA Design flow using Chipscope Pro and Serial I/O kit.
4. Xilinx Embedded Design flow using XPS and SDK.
5. Implementing DSP based system design using System Generator for DSP.
After the completion of this training program the participants will be able to:
1. Understand Xilinx FPGA architecture and design flow.
2. Describe the steps involved in PlanAhead based design flow.
3. Identify the steps involved in hardware debugging using Chipscope ILA and VIO.
4. Illustrate the use of FPGA’s embedded and DSP applications.
5. Overview of Xilinx Embedded Design flow using EDK and SDK.
6. Integrate Xilinx System Generator with Matlab/Simulink and explore model based design approach using Xilinx FPGA’s for image and signal processing applications.
7. Identify the solutions from Xilinx DSP design flow for addressing image and signal processing applications.
8. Familiar with Zynq architecture and getting started with Zed board
