Fabricated several pre-industrial scale prototypes of hydrogen storage reactor of about 100-200 g hydrogen storage capacity for automobile application and its performance was tested at different operating conditions.

Using a single-stage heat transformer, a heat input of 120 °C has been upgraded up to 170 °C. With double – stage heat transformer, the same heat input was upgraded up to 210 °C.

Designed and fabricated several lab-scale sensible and latent heat storage prototypes of 10 MJ capacity and their performance testing are under progress.

 

Design and development of 1.25 GJ steam accumulator embedded with PCM heat storage cartridges are being carried out.  This system will be commissioned in the proposed solar thermal power plant at Chennai.

Confirmation of nucleation site formation during solidification of water

Publication:1

Investigated the various parameters affecting the formation of nucleation site during solidification of water with experiments. Developed a mechanism “static electricity discharge” which confirms the formation of nucleation in water with 95% reliability. Using this technique the nucleation temperature of water was enhanced from -8 °C to -2 °C.

Developed several prototypes of porous radiant burners (PRB) for domestic LPG cooking applications. Achieved 75 % thermal efficiency, which is 17% higher than the conventional LPG cooking stoves. Both the CO and NOx emissions levels of the newly developed PRBs are in the range of 10 to 160 mg/m3 and 0-1 mg/m3, respectively. The CO and NOx emissions levels of the conventional cooking stove are in the range of 300 to 1050 mg/m3 and 162 to 216 mg/m3, respectively. PRBs showed steady operation without any flash back.

The same design has been extended to industrial-scale LPG burner of 10-15 kW capacity and achieved 33 % higher thermal efficiency than the conventional burner. Commercialization of the above mentioned products are under process.
