GATE 2010

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), is an all India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.


Admission to postgraduate programmes with MHRD and some other government scholarships/ assistantships in engineering colleges/institutes is open to those who qualify through GATE. GATE qualified candidates with Bachelor's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture or Master's degree in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications are eligible for admission to Master/Doctoral programmes in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture as well as for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science with MHRD or other government scholarships/assistantships. To avail the scholarship, the candidate must secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. However, candidates with Master's degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture may seek admission to relevant PhD programmes with scholarship/assistantship without appearing in the GATE examination.

The Master of Science and other post-B.Sc. programmes at the IITs offer high quality post-gradu­ate education in respective disciplines, comparable to the best in the world. The current pace of advance­ment of technology needs a coherent back up of ba­sic science education and research. The vibrant aca­demic ambience and research infrastructure of the IITs motivate the students to pursue R&D careers in fron­tier areas of basic sciences as well as interdiscipli­nary areas of science and technology.

From the Academic Session 2004-2005, Indian Insti­tutes of Technology have started conducting a Joint Admission Test to M.Sc. (JAM) for admission to M.Sc. and other post-B.Sc. programmes at the IITs. The main objective of JAM is to revive and consoli­date ‘Science’ as a career option for bright students from across the country and provide them a single step opportunity for admission to some of the postgraduate programmes offered at the IITs. In due course, JAM is also expected to become a benchmark for normal­izing undergraduate level science education in the country.


JMET 2010

Appearing for Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) is the first step in the process of seeking admission to the 2-YEAR FULL TIME Post-Graduate Degree Programmes in Management offered by IITs and IISc. Currently IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee are offering such Programmes in Management. JMET is being conducted for admission to these Programme
