International Conference on Numerical Linear Algebra and its Applications

NLAA 2013

IIT Guwahati

15 - 18 January, 2013

( A meeting endorsed by the International Linear Algebra Society )

Numerical Linear Algebra is concerned with the theory and practical aspects of computing solutions of three fundamental problems which are at the core of science and engineering, viz., linear systems of equations, least-squares problems and eigenvalue problems. Reliable software for solving these problems are of utmost importance for most scientific processes and finite precision arithmetic poses significant challenges to the numerical accuracy of solutions. Also the rapid advances and changes in the computer hardware make it necessary to keep revisiting existing software for these problems so that they make the most efficient use of the available computing resources. Moreover, the need to design efficient mathematical models of real world phenomena constantly gives rise to challenging problems in the area. Meeting the challenges in computing also leads to a better understanding of the theoretical aspects of these problems and vice versa.

The proposed conference envisages an opportunity for young researchers interested in such problems to be exposed to some of the leading experts and other young researchers active in the area from all over the world who will highlight the state of the art research in the subject and also showcase its many applications. It also aims to encourage young researchers to present their work to some of the most eminent researchers in the field.

The conference will be preceded by a workshop on Numerical Linear Algebra to be held from 7-12 January, 2013 at the same venue which will be fully sponsored by the National Centre for Mathematics. For more details about the workshop please visit the following site:

                                                http://atmschools.org/2013/atmw/nla

The conference format will consist of mostly invited talks and some contributed talks by young researchers with the resource persons of the workshop also giving invited talks at the conference.
