Background

The process of democratic transition, which gained momentum in Myanmar in 2011, opened the floodgates for academia, international investors, international media and human rights activists to capture the country's experiences with colonialism, a ravaged history, ethnic conflicts and possible outcomes through political and economic reforms.

With political liberalization in Myanmar, there is a renewed scope for enhancement of bilateral ties. It is within this framework that this conference seeks to explore the implications that contemporary changes in Myanmar have on India-Myanmar relationship in terms of ethnicity, security and connectivity.

The break-up of the sessions are as follows:

Technical Session I: India-Myanmar Relations: Ethnicity and Security Dimensions
Technical Session II: Proximity to Connectivity: India-Myanmar in Perspective
Technical Session III: Myanmar's changing political landscape and scope for strengthening cooperation between India and Myanmar
Technical Session IV: Concluding Session
