India has a total area of 3,287,263 sq kms and is a home of 1,014,003,817 population. The indian capital is New Delhi. The people speak different dialect including Hindi, English, Punjabi, Urdu & seventeen other regional Languages.

Time Difference / Business Hours
 
Indian time is 5½ hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+5.30)
 
Business hours for banks are generally from 09:30 to 16:30 on weekdays only. Banks are closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. ATMs are widely available. Major department stores are open from 10:30 to 20:30, including Sundays, but smaller shops tend to open earlier and close later every day.
 
Currency & Credit Card
 
Basic unit of Indian currency is Rupees. The exchange rate is subject to change with minor daily fluctuation. As of April 23, 2010, the exchange rate is approximately USD 1 to Rs 44.4873. Foreign bank notes and traveler's checks can be exchanged into Indian Rs at the airport, hotels and at all Indian banks. Credit Cards like VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Diners Club, are all widely accepted.

Electrical Specifications
 
Electrical outlets are operated at 220 volt, 50 Hz in India. Overseas delegates bringing laptop and other electrical appliances are advised to check and bring with themselves a compatible transformer.
