Reaching India

Reaching Guwahati

Guwahati serves as the main gateway to the northeastern region of India. The distance of the city from the nearest metro, Kolkata, is 1151 km. By Air

The Guwahati Airport is located at 23 km from the city and connects Guwahati to major Indian cities by air. Regular flight services to the city of Guwahati are available from Delhi (2.5 hours) and Kolkata (1.5 hours) besides other Indian cities. By Rail

The Main Railway Station of Guwahati connects various parts of India by several train services. Four trains ply from/to Delhi, and plenty of others to/from cities like Kolkata, Chennai, New Jalpaiguri, Bhubaneshwar, Bangalore, Kochi, Mumbai, and Thiruvananthapuram. By Road

The Guwahati Bus Station offers a number of private and Assam State Transport Corporation buses linking Guwahati to other major cities of India. Cars on hire can also be availed of from travel agencies.

Reaching IIT Guwahati Campus

From Airport

IIT Guwahati is located on the north outskirts of the city of Guwahati. It is around 20 km from the heart of the city and around 30 min drive from the airport. Getting to the IIT Guwahati Campus from the airport will cost about Rs. 550 in a reserved taxi, which is available at the airport.

From Railway Station

For commuting from the railway station to the IIT Guwahati campus, taxi and auto-rickshaws are available. IIT Guwahati has also its own transportation facilities to ply to and fro from the campus to the city. The bus starting point  is opposite to Hotel President, Panbazar, which is at 15 minutes walking distance from the railway station.  Please see the bus timings below :

Transport within the City

Taxis are available for transport within the city also but are without meters and fares have to be negotiated and the same applies to auto-rickshaws. There is also an extensive network of city bus services. Ferry services help you cross the Brahmaputra River at nominal rates.
