About WiSSAP

The series of winter schools on speech and audio processing provides a regular forum for research students, faculty and R&D scientists/engineers working in these areas to enhance their background and get exposed to intricate research aspects. The schools work on a non-profit basis and hope to provide a platform for a qualitative exchange of ideas for utilizing speech and audio technology in the Indian context. WiSSAP-11 is the sixth one in the series, following the very successful earlier winter schools: WiSSAP-06, WiSSAP-07, WiSSAP-08, WiSSAP-09 and WiSSAP-10  focusing on different topics in these areas.

WiSSAP 2011

The focus of WiSSAP-2011 is on Speech Enhancement, a challenging area of research. It refers to vast collection of techniques developed over last four decades with the aim either to improve the perceived quality of speech or to improve its intelligibility. With the expansion of mobile telephony, the challenges in this area have grown and so has the research activity. The first day of the school will feature tutorial lectures by active researchers in this field covering the fundamental topics in speech enhancement. Over the next three days, the invited international experts will discuss in-depth the latest research and the new research directions in this area. In addition to these, there will be evening sessions for presentations and demos from researchers from industry and academia, interaction with experts and discussions on open problems in this area. WiSSAP-2011 is targeted mainly towards post-graduate students, faculty in educational institutions and scientists/researchers in research labs/industry from India and abroad.

WiSSAP-2011 is being organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati), the premier institution located at the capital city of one of the most beautiful states of India in its north east region.

The school will be held at the Conference Center at IIT Guwahati during January 8 - 11, 2011.
