Background

"Revisiting Partition: concepts, dynamics and manifestations with special focus on north east India" organized by the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati in association with the Institute of Social Change And Regional Development (ISCARD), Assam from 10th to 11th February 2017. The Inaugural of the seminar will be on the evening of 9th February, 2017.

The seminar is being organized with the aim to revisit many contentious issues like those of nation and nationalism, citizenship, legal rights of the affected and other peoples, the idea of community and the restructured lives of the people, after partition of India and Pakistan in 1947. In north east India Partition has remained a vibrant question through the post-1947 decades not only because of the abiding popular interest but also because of the various social, political, economic and humane off-shoots of the process of Partition.

The seminar would engage in critically locating partition and the politics of decolonization in the eastern frontier of Colonial India and its impact on the construction of post-colonial politics and society. The effort of the seminar would be to encourage interdisciplinary studies designed to construct a comprehensive story of Partition in this region.
